Acceptable Use Policy
The rules for business profiles and destination links on Scan Yer Van.
Last updated: 19 September 2026
What this covers
This Acceptable Use Policy applies to everyone who uses Scan Yer Van, operated by SCAN YER VAN LTD (Company No. SC858856). It sits alongside our Terms & Conditions and covers the content people can create or send through the service:
- Business profiles — the business name, details and branding a subscriber sets up.
- Destination links — the website or page a QR code points to.
Using Scan Yer Van properly
You agree to use the service lawfully and honestly. In particular, you will:
- Represent your own, genuine business, and keep your details and destination link accurate and live.
- Only apply stickers to vehicles you own or operate.
- Respect other people — including anyone who scans a code.
What is not allowed
You must not use Scan Yer Van — in a profile or a destination link — to:
- Break the law, or help anyone else to.
- Impersonate another business or person, or mislead people about who you are.
- Link to or distribute malware, phishing pages, scams, or fraudulent or deceptive content.
- Post or send content that is threatening, abusive, harassing, hateful, defamatory, or obscene.
- Share sexual content, or content that is harmful or inappropriate for a general audience who may scan a sticker in public.
- Infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
- Send spam or bulk unsolicited messages to anyone who contacts you after scanning.
- Probe, attack, or attempt to circumvent the security of the service, or reverse engineer it.
Destination links
Destination links are checked against Google Safe Browsing and a family filter (adult and malware sites) when set and when changed, but this is not a guarantee. You remain responsible for where your QR code points at all times. We may deactivate a QR code whose destination breaches this policy or becomes unsafe.
Moderation and removal
We do not routinely monitor profiles, but we may review content when it is reported or when we have reason to. Where content breaches this policy or the law, we may — at our discretion and proportionate to the issue:
- Remove or hide the content.
- Deactivate a QR code or business profile.
- Suspend or close the account.
- Preserve information for, and report to, the police or other authorities where the law requires or clearly justifies it.
Where it is appropriate and lawful to do so, we'll tell the account holder what action we've taken and why, and how to respond.
Reporting content
If you've scanned a code or seen a profile that you believe breaches this policy — or is illegal, unsafe, or abusive — please tell us. Email [email protected] or use our contact page, and include:
- the vehicle registration or a link/description of the profile or code, and
- what the problem is (and a screenshot if you have one).
We aim to acknowledge reports within 2 working days and to act on genuine breaches promptly. Reports of illegal content, or a risk to someone's safety, are prioritised.
Consequences of a breach
Breaching this policy may lead to content removal, QR-code deactivation, or suspension or closure of your account, as set out above and in our Terms & Conditions. Serious or repeated breaches, and anything illegal, may be referred to the relevant authorities.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, give notice by email or a prominent notice on the site.
